What is the Hang Seng Index?

Hang Seng Index gives information about the stocks listed in the Hong Kong stock exchange. Hang Seng index has been started with Hang Seng bank and is known as HSI.  

It is the free float adjusted market capitalization weighted stock market index. It is of course the main index which reflects the health of the Hong Kong economy.  

It is comprise of 45 companies and these represent about 67% capitalization of the Hong Kong Stock exchange It was started in 1969 and is maintained by HSI Services limited which is owned by Hang Seng Bank. 

As with all the stock indices in all the big stock exchange markets Hang Seng index there are several other indices for Hang Seng 

Hang Seng China AH Index Series,

Hang Seng China Enterprises Index,

Hang Seng China H-Financials Index,

Hang Seng Composite Index Series,

Hang Seng Free float Index Series and

Hang Seng Total Return Index Series.
