What is Dalal Street and BSE , BSE-30 and Sensex ?
Dalal Street is to India what Wall Street is to US. On the similar note Sensex is to India what Dow Jones is to US. The Bombay stock exchange now called the BSE is the oldest stock exchange in India and has about 4700 listed companies on it.
This stock exchange was established in the year 1875 and it is the tenth largest in the world. The term sensex is derived from the word Sensitive Index and also called the BSE-30.
Singapore exchange has a strategic alliance with the Bombay Stock exchange.The hours of operation of the exchange are 10.00 – 4.00 pm.
The Bombay stock exchange sensitive index is composed of thirty stocks and is a value wighted index. The base value of the sensex is considered to be 100 on Aptil 1, 1979. and base year is 1978-79.
The working of the Bombay stock exchange is reviewd and regulated by the Securities and Exchnage Board of India called SEBI . The list of 30 stocks that form the BSE-30 or the Sensex are
