Krugerrand gold coins by South African Mint as investment in gold

Continuing on my series on gold coins I had first written about the Canadian gold coins and now I am going to tell you about the Krugerrand gold coins which are minted by the South African mint.

The Krugerrand gold bullion coins was first minted in 1967 and it is named after the South African president named Paul Kruger. On one side of the coin it has the Paul Kruger’s’ picture and on other side it has the Springbok antelope.

As in other gold coins this gold coin also come in a variety of sizes and these four sixes are
1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz
In these the 1oz gold coins of course the most sought after mainly because of the purity and the less premium.

The South African Gold Krugerrand again can be bought from a large number of dealers online and offline.  There are generally two versions of the coins that are and these are the circulated versions and the uncirculated version. The uncirculated versions are much better off as they fetch higher premium and these can also be found at authorized dealers shops.

The way to calculate the price of the Krugerrand gold coins is exactly the same as any other gold coin and that is to know the spit price of the gold on that day and then make sure that you add 4-5% premium over the price. The reason for the premium is that within this premium is built the distribution and carrying costs of the dealers.

As I have said again and gain on this blog of mine that if you are buying god, you should not treat as way to gain money via appreciation rather it should be held as hedge against the inflation and the currency risks. That is why it is imperative that you should not look at the current gold price and rather by the gold based on your budget and if you a godo amount of money then go for higher weight coins or gold bullion bars.
