Dow Jones Blue chip stocks

Dow Jones is the main index by which all the world swears by and that means that all the top 30 Dow Jones index stocks are the dow jones blue chip companies. Well yes and no and the reason is that sometimes there will be companies which have lost there clout and will need to be replaced.

The most recent example being that Citigroup (C) was replaced in the top 30 because of its massive losses and diminishing clout in the stock market as opposed to the earlier status when it was a financial behemoth with huge profits and a large cap status.

The Dow Jones has the thirty stocks in its index and their price is used to arrive at a weighted average and that weighted average will tell you what the price of the index is today.

The other major thing to know is that there is the list of NASDAQ blue chip stocks which are the bets among the top 100 stocks

Now as far as the dividend paying is concerned not all the dividend paying stocks and you will need to make sure that you find those which stocks have the good dividend yield.

As I have said repeatedly that Dow Jones index is good for investment if you can easily make sure that they are for the long term growth. If you are looking for a short term profits then the best bet that you have is that you need to have the day trading courses taken or you need to have the abilities and the risk taking money available to do day trading and margin trading.

If you are a passive investor then the best bet is that you need to have the blue chips as your main stock stocks in the portfolio.

Again blue chip stocks are coined so because of the game of poker where the blue chips are of the highest value.

Finding Stock Symbols – A Must Know For Stock Market Beginners

Stock symbols are a must for the stock market for beginners . These symbols signify a particular stock of a company. Each exchange gives it own symbol for each stock.

For example the stock google is known by symbol GOOG but then this symbol is on the new york stock exchange. On the NASDAQ also the same sysmbol is used.

When you learn to invest in stocks then you can use the sysmbols to buy or sell stocks . You need not remember the symbols as they are a ready made list available with each brokerage and they can provide you with a symbol if you type in a name of a company.

These symbols are in fact a way of stock exchnages to easily list them as opposed to listing a big name of a company.

The best way to find stock symbols is to go to the stock exchange website and list will be provided.

Finding a stock symbol is easy if you are trading online as each brokerage has a readymade list available .

If you ask a question where to find stock symbols then the list is readily available at all leading stock borkerages websites as well as at yahoo finance and google finances and in fact the website of new york stock exchange as well as NASDAQ.

How are these stock symbols assigned .. well there is now particular theor to them but yes they are assigned based on the name of the company example InFosys is INFY and IBM is IBM . A bigger name will have an abbreviated symbol.

European stock symbols list should be available at the stock exchanges like Luxembourg and Frankfurt and London .

Similarly Indian stock exchange like BSE or NSE have their own list of symbols for company stocks.
