Are gold coins for sale right now and what gold coin prices mean?

While I am mostly interested in stocks the fact remains that as I think about the 2008 mortgage crisis and the bloodbath in the stock markets I am inclined to think that it is better to hold some gold as a physical asset. That is in reality a good diversification.

Most people who do that think that it is for the gold price appreciation and they will make money from it. Well if they doing that then are absolutely wrong because if you have to do then you might as well as invest in gold stocks.

You have to invest in gold and buy physical stock as a hedge against the stock market vagaries and as well as against any inflation risk. Which means that if everything goes awry you will have the world’s most valuable form of currency i.e. gold with you to get you some money to buy stuff for your survival. It is precisely for this purpose you should have gold with you.

Gold coins and bullion bars are your best bet when you start looking for the gold bullion to buy.
The gold coins are the most easiest thing to secure and they are easily available with the US mint. US Mint also authorizes several dealers and banks to operate on their behalf and sell the American Eagle gold coins.
Now some time back US mint had stooped the sale of the American Eagle Gold coins has they ha run out of the supply of Gold reserves to mint the coins. Still there are dealers who have the gold coins with them are selling the gold coins.

Now apart from the American Eagle gold coins you can still buy the
Australian and UK Sovereigns
South African Krugerrands
Canadian Maple Leafs
Chinese Pandas

The face value of the coin really does not matter and it is the weight in ounces which matter and the fineness of the gold coin. The fineness means how much other metals are there in the gold coin.
Gold coin prices will vary based on the fact that how much is the vintage of the coin and to a large extent on the gold prices currently available at the spot exchange. These gold prices are given in per troy ounce. If you know that current spot price then you can calculate the gold price of the coin.
